How Long Does It Take to Become an Allied Health Professional?
Medical assistants work in doctor's offices and hospitals, and the services they provide are indispensable to the modern healthcare environment. These allied health professionals have job duties in the waiting room and front office, as well as more specialized tasks with patients working alongside doctors and nurses. If you choose to become a medical assistant you will learn everything from administrative tasks to hands on patient care. The certification process will take at least one year or longer if you are planning on specializing in a certain area of medicine.
The road to becoming a medical assistant is finding an educational program that has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools. There are vocational and technical schools that offer these programs, as well as community colleges. Most vocational and technical schools take about a year, while most community colleges take about two years. The advantage of the second is the more specialized training that can be very helpful in the job market.
You will need to get hands on training through an internship or similar program, either during the final stages of your training or after you have graduated. Then you'll need to take the medical assistant certification test administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners to get your Certified Medical Assistant license. At this point you'll be ready to apply for jobs and begin your career.

Acupuncture Universities - Getting the Most out of Your Health Education
Add caption |
As a prospective student, it is sometimes difficult to determine in
which one of the many acupuncture universities or other complementary
medicine schools you'd like to enroll. One of the first things you
should do is make a list of potential contacts for your Oriental
medicine school of choice. The next step is to pursue these contacts
and explore your career training options.
As
you will discover, many acupuncture institutes and other Oriental
medicine colleges typically require some degree of higher education
before students can enroll into academic programs. So, it is important
that applicants acquire official transcripts from previous educational
institutions.
In order to enroll in the MSAOM (Master of Science
in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) degree program at most acupuncture
universities and schools, students must have completed an educational
equivalent to a Bachelor's degree. As well, students pursuing the DAOM
(Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) degree soon learn that
minimum prerequisites include the equivalent of the MSAOM degree.
Now
that you've organized your transcripts, it's time to take a virtual
journey to the many available acupuncture universities and colleges
online. Because the Internet has improved the prevalence of educational
resources, this is a good place to begin. As with any Chinese medicine
school, you will learn there are more than just degree programs
available to you. A matter of fact, a number of acupuncture and
Oriental medicine colleges extend adjunct certificate and/or diploma
programs in Chinese medical massage (Tuina), meridian therapy, herbal
medicine, continuing education, as well as post-graduate courses.
Once
you've chosen your top three school candidates, it's time to determine
your financial need and availability of financial aid resources at the
educational institution of choice. Much like conventional schools,
acupuncture universities frequently participate in tuition assistance
programs like the PELL grant, among other loan options.
After
you've applied for financial aid, filed your transcripts, and submitted
an application to your selected acupuncture school - be prepared for not
only course-intensive programs, but for a whole new concept in modern
and natural healthcare education. Aside from certificate and diploma
courses, students pursuing acupuncture degree programs will be
pleasantly surprised at the wealth of comprehensive knowledge and skills
they will gain. In addition to basic health sciences like anatomy,
physiology, and biology; students enrolled in acupuncture universities
gain in-depth philosophies and studies of TCM (Traditional Chinese
Medicine), acupuncture therapy (and/or auricular-acupuncture), meridian
therapy, moxibustion, cupping, Chinese herbology, Tai Chi/Qi Gong,
Eastern bodywork modalities like acupressure, and Chinese medical
terminology, among other associated studies.
Upon completion of
all necessary academics and clinical internship, graduates of
acupuncture programs must take and pass the National Certification
Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine exam. Once candidates
have successfully achieved certification, they may then apply for
licensure* to practice in their respective State of residence. (*Check
individual State requirements.)
Today, many professional
acupuncturists are considered primary care physicians, and stand to earn
a comfortable living*, and a personally-rewarding, long-term career.
(*Earnings range from $40 -$70 per patient session.)

3 Ways to Really Engage Your Audience the Next Time You Show that Health Education Video
Add caption |
Here are three (3) exciting ways to use video in your NEXT health education presentation:
1. Challenge your audience to look for several action points in the in the video.
Offer a prize for whoever meets the challenge. For example, there is a lead prevention video called The Silent Epidemic which focuses on the cause, prevention and dangers of lead poisoning. You could say "I will give a prize for the person who can find at least five ways to prevent lead poisoning mentioned in the film."
2. Put your audience to work.
Divide your participants into groups of no more than seven (7) people. Ask each group to develop a list of questions that were not addressed in the video.
Perhaps your audience has more insights than the film chosen. Once people are asked to provide critical feedback they are often very willing.
Have each group report back to the entire audience. Allow time for discussion after each presentation.
3. Challenge your participants to come up with at three (3) things they would do different if they were the creators of the health education film.
This is a great activity for an afternoon. After groups have been divided into teams assign them to create a new segment on storyboard for an audience that has not been addressed by the film. Or have participants come up with strategies to present the information in a more engaging way.
For example, a film on safety prevention aimed at teens may or may not capture all segments of teens. What would they suggest? What would those groups do different to make it work?
Have each group report their creative suggestions to the entire audience.
If
you use any one or combination of these strategies it will dramatically
reinforce the messages given in your health education film.
Give it a try!

What Does Natural Health Mean to You?
Add caption |
What's your natural health IQ?
All too often, we become caught up with the "what's in" phase of
society. Being the average consumer of a myriad of healthcare options,
it's sometimes difficult to distinguish what is in our best interest -
especially when we're inundated with a constant flow of TV commercials
talking about various pharmaceuticals and other conventional health
treatments. News reports seem to conflict one another - what's great
one day for lowering cholesterol might be detrimental to our bodies five
years down the road; likewise, pain-killing drugs like the recent
arthritis anti-inflammatory drug Vioxx proved to have serious health
repercussions. What has never changed, however, is the fact that basic
natural health remedies are frequently the best choice for all
concerned.
For instance, natural health products like CoQ10
(coenzyme Q10) have been proven to help lower blood pressure and improve
heart health. In addition, there are many individuals who seek
anti-aging methods; often turning to plastic surgery, harsh chemical
peels, and botox to improve the look and feel of skin. Today, there are
several alternatives to improving the condition of your skin naturally
including facial massage, pomegranate extract, vitamin E and coconut
milk - to name a few natural health solutions.
Homeopathic
remedies for acne, common colds and flu, strains and other
musculoskeletal pain have also shown to work effectively without the
drastic side effects of conventional medicine. Aforementioned and other
natural health care treatments are beginning to gain leeway in North
America, as more and more consumers are demanding safe and noninvasive
medicine that treats the whole person and not just the "dis-ease."
What
is your natural health education level? Many times, we discover "new"
or alternative therapies in newspaper stands, shelf magazines or online.
Skeptics might warrant some disdain for complementary medicines like
acupuncture, chiropractic, naturopathy and homeopathy - but how many of
these individuals have actually facilitated these natural health
treatments? Begging to differ on opinion-based literature, one must
merely explore the many facets of natural health care to determine which
discipline or combination of integrative healthcare meets your needs.
Today,
there is a plethora of natural health education material available
online, in local libraries, college libraries and through your local
alternative healthcare practitioner, as well. Don't take our word for
it, challenge yourself to discover the many avenues of natural healing
medicines. You may just surprise yourself with the outcome!
3 Purposes of Touching Souls - Health, Education and Safe Environment

Do you wonder what non-profit organizations get by working for
the poor and the needy? The answer is satisfaction and a feeling of
fulfillment having done something for the cause of the society. Charity
organizations around the world focus on three key issues which affect
the poor and the underprivileged people - health, education, and having a
safe environment to live in. We often take these basic things for
granted but millions of people, who die of hunger and malnutrition,
never see a school and don't have a proper shelter. Can't we help these
people and provide them these basics? Yes, we can if not being directly
involved with a nonprofit organization at least by supporting it.
Browse the Internet and you will come across hundreds of websites which work for the developing countries. The only way to counter the social deprivation in these regions of the world is through projects which target the root causes - absence of adequate health care facilities, lack of quality education and basic shelter. The nonprofit organizations have built active teams of volunteers who carry out these projects for the benefit of the poor and the needy. Their project reaches the people in dire need.
Health Care - In terms of health care programs these charity organizations run camps in the rural and backward areas of the country. In these camps surgeries like cataract removal, cleft-lip, cleft-pallet and artificial limbs are done free of cost. These are some of the burgeoning problems in these countries where the problem is compounded by the fact that most of the newborns aren't administered proper vaccination and medical care. The nonprofit organizations also help out in child delivery both for the infant and the mother. These projects have yielded results and brought a new ray of hope to the lives of many.
Education - Illiteracy and ignorance are the biggest roadblock in backward countries. The statistics are dismal when it comes to rural areas of these countries and especially the figures related to the education of the girl child. The non-profit organizations run schools for the children and in the slums to help them climb up on the social ladder. Apart from running schools books and other education related items are made available to these children. To bring down the rate of dropout charity organizations are also offering scholarships to meritorious students belonging to poor families.
Safe Environment - A lot of problems in the poor regions of the world arise out of the unsafe environment that they live in. Problems like arsenic contamination in water, pollution of air due to industrialization and unhygienic sanitation loom over most of these places. Non-profit organizations run campaigns to make people aware of these problems and offer them quick suggestions and solutions to these problems. In many places they fund the construction of proper toilets for the poor who can least afford it. They also fund research on environmental problems they loom over the people.

Are We Teaching Health Education Too Early?
Lessons about personal, social and health matters including sex
and relationships will be compulsory in all England's schools from ages
five to 16. The government is currently reviewing the best way in which
they can tackle the situation. Reports have shown that more than 1,000
people found two thirds would support sex lessons from the age of 11.
Reviews of the education in the UK were taken out as Government
officials said that current education is too 'patchy'.
Teaching health education to kids who are 11 is acceptable I suppose however teaching kids from the age of 5 I think is just too much. The department for Children, School and Families said the review of sex lessons had identified "a need to challenge the perception that sex and relationships education happened in a 'moral vacuum' in schools and says that parents and schools can and should work together to decide how best topics should be taught.
The Government are trying to improve the framework and moral understanding around which teachers can then talk about sex education later on in children's school lives.
I can understand the basic logic behind the scheme but personally I would never really notice the difference if this concept was not implemented. I cannot see the advantage of deploying this tactic to school children at such a young age, it just doesn't seem 'normal'. It feels as though it is too much at such a young age. I will have to stand corrected on my statements but in my opinion the concept of teaching young school children health education is not right.

Natural Health Education in the 21st Century
In recent times, there has been an increased shift toward natural
health and wellness programs both here in America and abroad. Part of
this evolution is due in part to the noninvasive nature of integrative
and complementary medicines; and with the gaining popularity of these
effective yet safe, alternative therapies, comes the necessity for
natural healing educational courses.
Natural health schools provide a vast array of healing arts programs including acupuncture and Oriental medicine, chiropractic, energy medicine, homeopathy, naturopathy, massage therapy, and reflexology, among others. Some of the more popular natural health classes are designed to introduce individuals to healthcare disciplines like herbal medicine, aromatherapy and Reiki. But what many individuals do not know is that not only can they attain a comprehensive education in one of the aforementioned studies, but some of these courses result in a degree and/or licensure.
As an example, natural health programs in massage therapy almost always require students to become certified and licensed in the field. While many natural healing schools provide 300-hour training hours, a greater number of massage schools have begun offering 500+ hour massage programs to meet National certification standards.
Other natural health schools are much more course-intensive and require three to four years of practical training and education. For example, in a naturopathic program, students have the potential to earn their Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine Degree (ND). In this particular course of study, students learn about homeopathy, herbs, natural pharmacology, somatic education, and other relative subject matter.
Of course there are many other natural health programs from which to choose, however, before enrolling in one, candidates should examine current trends, career outlook, and whether or not the prospective school offers financial aid programs, in addition to accreditation. Like traditional schools and colleges, natural health schools typically provided clinical internships, continuing education courses, and career placement assistance, as well as financial planning services.

Why Use Socratic Seminars in Your Health Education Class?
What is a Socratic seminar? A Socratic seminar is a formal
discussion based on a topic where the leader asks open-ended questions.
Throughout the Socratic seminar students will listen closely to the
comments of others, think critically, and articulate their own thoughts
and their responses to the thoughts of their peers. Students will learn
to work cooperatively and ask questions intelligently and civilly. The
Socratic seminar allows students to apply practical methods of a topic
being discussed and enables the students to view certain points from
several different perspectives. Throughout the discussion the teacher
should minimally intervene, and when doing so it should be to lead the
students to a specific topic or ask an additional open-ended question
about a topic already being discussed. Giving the students the freedom
to participate in a Socratic discussion will increase student
involvement and student learning.
A
Socratic discussion can be utilized in any subject including history,
language arts, sociology, etc. but I would like to discuss the use of a
Socratic discussion in a health education class. Incorporating a
Socratic seminar in your health education class will be prevalent in
most topics such as living a healthy life, building good character,
physical activity, nutrition and health, managing stress, emotional
problems, relationships, obesity, drug use, environmental health etc.
this is because these topics are very relevant to your students everyday
life. You can lead your students into a discussion with these topics
with a current event article, after a discussion lecture, after watching
a you tube clip, and relating it to something that may be going on or
happening in your school. In addition these are all topics that I'm sure
your students have interest in, hear about, and participate in on an
everyday basis. With a proper questioning technique by the leader
(teacher) you will be able to generate a very scholarly discussion among
your students, you may be surprised how passionate some of your
students are about specific topics.
The key to getting your students to participate and really get involved is to ask the right questions that will generate discussion. Once you are on a specific topic in class begin a Socratic seminar by asking a question on that topic, once a few students have responded start asking questions such as what do you mean by that? How does this relate? Could you give me an example? Could you explain further, what is he/she assuming? Why do you think that right? What lead you to that believe? What's an alternative? Are you implying this? Etc. Again you may be shocked how some students may passionately agree with some of their peers responses and comments, or disagree and begin to debate which may be a good learning experience for the students because they will begin to view the topic/discussion from multiple perspectives which may enhance the learning experience.
The purpose of a Socratic seminar is to get your students engaged in a higher level of thinking to promote learning. Incorporating Socratic seminars into your class will lead your students in discussion, debate, critical thinking, acquiring greater interests, and the ability to apply practical methods. "He who learns but does not think is lost" Confucius (551-479 BCE).

Your Holistic Health Education is Important - Here Are the Top 5 Tips You Don't Want to Miss
A holistic health education is becoming more popular as people
are becoming more aware of the cost and risks of pharmaceuticals and
surgery. If you are interested in a holistic health education, it is
important to go about it the right way so you make money. Here are the
top 5 important tips to help you get started on the right path in your
career.
Tip #5 - Determine what, exactly, it is that you want to do. Some people want to be nutritional counselors, some people want to be Registered Dietitians, and some simply want to "heal." Your goal is more than likely to help other people with their health. But, you have to be specific of how you want to help people.
Once you think about this and determine what you want to do, then find out what type of training you need and if you are even in the "right" field. For example, a dietitian is not in the field of holistic health.
Holistic health is a broad area, perhaps too broad. Because of this it is difficult to get the training you need. You must ask around and research to find professionals who do work similar to what you want to do. It is best to see what types of training others have received. Since there are many types of training and schools, this makes it easier for you to learn what is available in your area. From there, you must also determine what type of licensing is required in your area.
Some ideas to get you started are; Nutritional Counselor, massage therapist, aromatherapist, Herbologist, Doctor of Acupuncture, supplement dealer, Naturopath, Lymphatic Drainage Specialist, Endermologist, educator, colon hydrotherapist, yoga teacher, Hypnotherapist and the list goes on. But, as you can see, the area is vast with varied types of training.
Tip #4 - Getting your first job in a holistic health office is an excellent way to interact with working professionals. By working with them, you find how and where they trained. In addition, you can see how the whole office scene works from reception to management and bookkeeping and then therapists pay and scheduling.
Getting your first job before you complete your actual training has a lot of benefits in the holistic health education arena. First of all, getting a job in this field may not always be easy. Having your foot in the door first may help with securing a job once your training is complete.
Second, working in the holistic health field while you are training can help you see how your knowledge is being applied in the work place. You have professionals working around you that may be willing to help answer questions or clarify things for you while you are learning. All of this leads us to the next tip, which is a very important one...
Tip #3 - Nothing Makes up For Experience. Nothing. All the degrees and book training in the world will not mean anything until you are able to use it and work with people. This is why Tip #2 was so important. You can get 2 things accomplished by getting your first job in a holistic office; learning while working and gaining hands-on experience with clients, since that will be your ultimate goal.
If you are very lucky, you may work in a place where they do some type of training in massage therapy or other area. As you progress, you can ask if you can gain experience and sit in on some therapy sessions to see how the therapist interacts with the client. Some apprentices do this before actually working with clients.
If you are doing any type of massage therapy training, experience will be a must before you get your certification. In some cities, up to 1200 hours of hands-on massage therapy with clients may be necessary. Finding your "practice" clients may not be as easy as it sounds.
This experience will come much easier if you have accomplished Tip #2 and are working in an office. Some places will allow you to set up in a spare room or share with somebody else. Offering "free" massages by a worker in training may be an ideal set up for both you and your boss.
Tip #2 - Diversify Your Income. In this day and age, this may be an important aspect for anyone to consider. Even if you work for someone else, you might want to have a couple of different income sources just in case a lay off or unexpected closure happens.
How do you diversify your income with getting another job? There are a variety of ways to earn an income with a holistic health education. Here are some ideas to get you started, read them over and consider two or three that may be an option for you; work in a holistic health office, work in a spa, work in a professional's office such as a doctor of chiropractic or acupuncture, sell supplements, rent a room take individual clients, teach seminars to other newbies in your field, teach fitness classes if you are into yoga, teach meditation, have a website and build that up over time to make income in a variety of ways from ads to selling supplements, write a book to help people, write articles for both online and offline magazines, teach people about the smaller known therapies such as Bach flower remedies or essential oils.
Any of these income sources needs to be built up over time. But this can come as you are working in a "regular" job and they just may supplement your income. If you develop it correctly, you may be able to create a full time income without having a traditional "job."
Tip #1 - The most important tip to help you stand out from the crowd of therapists is to specialize. This is how you find your voice and what makes you different. There are a number of massage therapists, but some specialize in deep tissue massage, some in sports therapy massage and others in essential oil massage in a spa setting. Nutritional Counselors all vary in their specialties, as well. Some specialize in weight loss while others specialize in healing from disease.
Your specialty will be determined by who you are, who you enjoy working with and what you enjoy teaching your clients. Perhaps you do not even care to work with individual clients. Some people have went on to discover they love teaching large classes and find it more rewarding. Others feel that writing books is satisfying. Working in your area will help you eventually identify which specialty you might choose.
No matter what you decide to do with your holistic health education, plan your strategy using tips like the ones above. A little planning can help you go a long way, save you some money and help you to make money in the process. For this is the ultimate goal of any career because you cannot help others unless you have the means to take care of yourself, first.

Emotions and Health: What You Can Do Right Now to Improve Your Emotional and Physical Health
For many years conventional medicine has believed that our
genetics are the primary cause of our physical health. In the 1990s,
however, scientific research found that our emotions play at least an
equal or possibly even a greater role in determining whether we will be
faced with illnesses like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, fibromyalgia,
obesity, alcoholism, fractures or chronic pain.
How Unresolved Emotions Affect Your Health
One of the best research studies available involving the effect of emotions on physical health is the ACE study, which was conducted by the Federal Centers for Disease Control, where researchers studied people who had an "adverse childhood experience" before the age of 18. "Adverse childhood experiences" included recurrent physical, emotional, or sexual abuse; growing up in a dysfunctional family where someone was clinically depressed, alcoholic, mentally ill or suicidal; or in a situation where the parents were separated, divorced, or taken away from the child in some way.
Researchers found that "adverse childhood experiences" were far more common than what has been recognized or acknowledged in the past. What was even more shocking was the scientific evidence of the correlation between these experiences and adult physical health. It became obvious that the people who frequent doctors offices on a regular basis have often experienced these emotionally painful 'adverse childhood experiences."
If you are one of the many people who grew up in a dysfunctional family and experienced some of these "adverse childhood experiences," you probably grew up believing that these experiences were normal. You also learned your ways of coping with your negative experiences from the role modeling of your dysfunctional caregivers. If you haven't had the opportunity to resolve those early experiences through psychotherapy or through some type of healthy support group, you have probably unknowingly continued the dysfunctional patterns that you learned. Too often this results in working out your emotional issues through poor physical health.
It's Never Too Late to Change!
Millions of people like you visit medical offices every day, hoping for relief from their current physical symptom. The problem is that when you don't deal with the roots of the symptom, the emotional pain will simply emerge in another way over time. With a little time and practice, you can learn how to identify your emotions and resolve them in healthy ways. Expressing your emotions in positive ways greatly improves your self-esteem and self-confidence as well as your physical health and well-being.
Building A Healthy Support System for Positive Change
You can also learn skills for establishing healthy relationships with people who understand and support what you are going through. Pet Nutrition and Health - Continuous Learning!
When people moved from rural areas to more populated centers for
job accessibility, cultural and entertainment purposes, the age old way
of feeding a pet table scraps and allowing a free running pet to
scrounge for food, changed. The concentration of people meant pets and
people existed in a more confined environment. Individuals did less and
less growing of their own food and more and more processed foods were
purchased.
The resulting change of humans purchasing processed foods created the processed pet food industry to begin flourishing in the 50's and 60's. Somewhere I read an estimate that over 90% of all the food pets consumed is preprocessed. This accounts for a large portion of the $40 Billion pet owners spend on these furry friends yearly.
Recently the nutritional health of pets became of grave concern when the pet food recalls surfaced. The importance of quality and integrity in pet foods was on every pet owner's mind. The pet food industry attempted to correct all the problems as fast as they could, but a lot of doubt still exists and increased nutrition education is paramount in the pet owner's mind.
We would all like to have pet food products that are "natural" and "organic", but must realize the major manufacturers are more inclined to cater to the "Bottom Line" which requires volume more than their dedication to nutritional quality which by government standards has only to meet the bare minimums. The words "natural" and "organic" are hard to verify in any product.
An important bit of information about pet foods is: The label does not tell the whole story. Consider this...the first listed ingredient is supposed to be of the greatest quantity, but since the ingredients are listed by weight what is the moisture content of the first item when processed into this food? Grains and meat can be 10%, 20%, 40% or? Additional items can be 5%...what is the true amount within.
What are meat bi-products? Are they the bone scrapings, cartilage, tallow and/or some unthinkable items? Why are preservatives used? Is it because such large production creates distribution problems and the pet food sacks can be in a hot warehouse or semi-trailer (parked in the hot sun) for extended periods of time (think 6 months or even a year) before being delivered or sold. Consider the processing, overheating and chemical processing destroys much that is necessary for proper nutrition.
Quality and integrity of pet foods cannot be totally determined by reading the label, it requires investigation and education found by comparing ingredients (particularly quality), asking and questioning experts in the field, veterinarians (except those well versed in nutrition) are not always the most reliable source of information.
There are good sources of information and products on the internet. Most sellers of commercial pet foods (veterinarians and store sales personnel) are coached by the manufacturers or distributors of these mass produced products. Read and read some more, then use that information to provide the best nutrition for your pet(s).

Safety and Health in the Workplace - Fire Extinguisher Training
Safety and health in the workplace involves educating employees
on fire prevention. But there's one aspect of fire prevention that more
often than not, fails to get mentioned at most fire safety trainings.
Teaching how to use a fire extinguisher should be included in your next
fire safety training. Like most safety and health trainings, be sure to
include other background and underlying information of fire basics in
addition to these so students will understand why extinguishers do what
they do. Here are two fire extinguishing categories to teach; Fuel
Classifications and Types of Extinguishers.
Fuel Classifications - Fires are classified into class A, B, C or D. The classification of a fire depends on the type of fuel or product that is burning. It's very important to use the correct extinguisher because if the wrong one is used, the fire could be made worse. Someone could get seriously hurt. For this reason, a user must first understand the classification of the fuel.
The three most common types of extinguishers are; Water, Carbon dioxide and Dry chemical.

It's very important to use the correct extinguisher because if the wrong one is used, the fire could be made worse. Someone could get seriously hurt. For this reason, a user must first understand the classification of the fuel.
- Class A - This fuel is the most common material in our everyday lives and in our homes. Clars A materials include cloth, wood, paper or plastics. This includes almost everything in our home and offices.
- Class B - Class B fuels generally are in working areas like garages, maintenance areas, shops and factories. Class B materials are flammable gases and liquids such as gasoline. Other chemicals that are class B fuels are grease, oil and acetones.
- Class C - Class C fuels are electrical or energize equipment. Live electricity is what makes the equipment fuel, therefore that equipment has to be plugged in.
- Class D - Class D fuels are metals. Think -um- when thinking Class D fuel. Metals such as potassium, sodium, aluminum and magnesium. This type of fuel requires special extinguishing agents that are not listed in this article.
The three most common types of extinguishers are; Water, Carbon dioxide and Dry chemical.
- Water - Water filled extinguishers are essentially large squirt guns. They are filled with ordinary water. Water extinguishers are silver and about 2 feet high. They weigh about 20 to 25 pounds. The water is kept under air pressure so it will spray when needed. One of the ways that you eliminate fire is to take away the heat. An ordinary water extinguisher can be used to eliminate heat from class A fires (wood, cloth, paper) only. Never attempt to extinguish a class B, C or D fire with a water fire extinguisher.
- Carbon dioxide - Carbon dioxide extinguishers are filled with carbon dioxide and are also under pressure. They can be anywhere from 5 to 100 pounds. Carbon dioxide is a nonflammable gas. It puts out class B and C fires because it displaces or takes away the oxygen. The carbon dioxide in the extinguisher comes out very cold. For this reason it cools the fire as well.
- Dry Chemical ABC - A dry chemical extinguisher is also identified as an ABC extinguisher. They are red and range from 5 to 20 pounds. A dry chemical extinguisher is pressurized nitrogen and filled with a yellow powder composite of monoammonium phosphate. The extinguisher coats the fuel with a thin layer of dust, thus separating the oxygen away from the fuel. Dry chemical extinguishers are effective at extinguishing electrical (class C) fires as well as class A and B. ABC extinguishers are preferred because they are versatile and they can be used in almost any situation.

H1B Visas for Medical and Health Professionals
Who are Eligible for H1B Visas?
H1B visas are available for those that qualify to work in a "specialty occupation." A "specialty occupation" is an occupation that requires a theoretical and practical application of a body of highly specialized knowledge, and attainment of a bachelor's or higher degree in the specific specialty (or its equivalent) as a minimum for entry into the occupation in the United States. Most professionals working in medical and health related fields meet these requirements. However, as a medical or health professional the attainment of the requisite education is often not enough to qualify for an H1B visa. It is often the case before a foreign medical or health professional can accept a job offer in the United States, they must demonstrate they have met state licensure requirements to practice in the occupation.
What are the Obstacles to Obtaining Them?
Many immigration law experts agree that the H1B visa is well suited for the attainment of both short-term and long-term career goals for professionals engaged in medicine and other health related fields. But medical and health professionals face some unique challenges in the attainment of their first professional position or extension of a current position within the United States.
Permanent Residency Options for Medical and Health Professionals
One of the advantages of the H1B visa is that it allows for a seamless transition to permanent residency. If you're inclined to take advantage of this opportunity, your options will include obtaining national interest waivers (NIW), labor certifications, EB1B outstanding professors and researchers and regular PERM filings. In some instances the best available immediate option is the O-1 alien of extra-ordinary ability visa, which may be recommended by your lawyer.
Should You Seek Professional Help?
To improve your chances of success, you will need to consult with an immigration lawyer who knows the H1B visa process inside and out. Preferably, seek someone experienced in working with residency and fellowship programs in the United States. Also, opt for an immigration lawyer that understands the importance of having a visa in hand before the start of your program and the often unique need to work beyond the traditional six-year period.
You should also see to it that they can work directly with your program, ensure that all timelines are understood and all petitions are properly and timely filed. A great immigration lawyer will work through your H1B visa petitions with your professional future in mind and provide guidance on how to best obtain your long-term goals.
Of all H1B visa related employment categories, medical and health professions present some of the most unique and challenging obstacles such as two-year foreign residency requirements, employment beyond the traditional H1B visa six-year limit and state licensing requirements.

Homeopathy Courses - Enlightening Natural Health Education
Add caption |
Depending in which one of several homeopathy courses students opt to enroll, one can safely assume that s/he will acquire a great deal of training in repertory, homeopathic terminology, case analyses, therapeutics, material medica, philosophy, and much more. While a number of homeopathy courses are designed for basic instruction in homeotherapeutics, other homeopathy courses are more comprehensive and will lead to certification in classical homeopathy.
Students enrolled in homeopathy courses will learn about the Laws of Similars, and how to use a patient’s own natural healing response with homeopathic remedies derived from animals, plants, chemicals and minerals. More serious candidates may elect to participate in advanced, in-depth homeopathy courses that provide both clinical experience and hands-on training. For the most part, students must have already attained a minimal of 500 classroom hours to advance to more comprehensive homeopathy courses. In advanced homeopathy courses, students will acquire additional instruction about various pathologies and homeopathic treatments thereof; they will also learn about case analyses, homeopathy remedy, dosage and potency.
In some cases, certified homeopathic practitioners may wish to take supplementary homeopathy courses as part of their continuing education to stay abreast of innovative skills and techniques that can help maintain a professional practice.

A Reason For Early Disease Education
Brenda was a braved 27 years old woman who decided to open up
about her health issues. I was sitting in my office setting up for a
disease education program that I concerted time and energy, wondering if
there were health conscious parents out there, keen to enroll their
children in this magnificent infectious and chronic disease program I
created. As I reviewed the responses of parents from a previous survey
conducted a week prior, a youthful looking woman walked up to me with a
pale smile and yawning blue eye; her hair running down her shoulders
had drenched curly waves as if she had just gotten off the shower. She
was wearing greasy looking jeans and a black t-shirt. She was holding
something in her hand similar to a little ball. I directed my eyes
toward her hand and she followed the path of my stare.
She made a timid smile and told me it was a stress ball. "I always cling to it in stressful situations" I asked her: "Are you in a stressful situation right now?" she nodded. I then asked her why she thought that way. She explained, she sought to share her story so I could include it in the program upcoming newsletter. Furthermore, she wanted to see her son join the program. I opened my eyes wide; surprised to see she was the first parent to believe a disease education program was necessary in shaping healthy behaviors. She can see that I was shocked and filled with gratitude. Brenda explained to me that by age 2, she started to show unsettling behaviors and bad temper. Her mother considered here petulance normal behavior from a needy and difficult child. She continued to explain that by age 7, she tried to kill herself and wrote her first suicide letter.
Fortunately her sister found it in time and saved her. She told me, back then in the 80s, there were no health education pamphlets or brochures straightforward to aid her mother understand what was happening to her. The type of technology that we now have was absent back then. Nonetheless, she was admitted into therapy; Brenda months and years were spend in and out of therapy as she continued to demonstrate odd behaviors. At 12 years old she got a prescription drug for depression which gave her an allergic reaction. In the meantime, she attempted many unsuccessful suicides. Brenda lost hope of ever getting better and to living a customary life. She dropped out of high school and sheltered herself in the house. She attempted jumping out of a building in an effort to call for help. She sought after someone to understand why she was always ill-tempered. Doctors were clueless and could not provide any accurate answer.
She was confined in an isolated room free from anything that she could use to harm herself. She was interrogated, analyzed, tested and put on different types of medications. She was a wreck and did not know why she was who she was and why she had to go through what she was going through. She did not wish for her mother to constantly spend money for her health. She wanted to depart from this world to provide her mother with a stress free life. She was prescribed medications to manage her mood swing and to control her temper. Her mother had to find a new doctor and get a different health perspective -- Brenda, her mother and sister moved out of state to find a better cure. They met with another doctor who diagnosed Brenda with Bi-polar disorder. She had to be on a daily regimen to keep her mood swing at bait so she can have a normal life. Brenda finally went back to school and started to reintegrate society. Brenda got married and birth a child whom she named Derrick. Derrick was 7 years old and Brenda was worn out that Derrick was diagnosed with autism due to immunization. Brenda was scared she wasn't up for the challenge attributable to her own personal issues but in addition she did not understand the illness her son was experiencing. Sitting amongst the guest throughout my survey session, she was bound to talk with me and command me for the work I was doing in the community. She wanted children to learn about diseases to forge health conscious adults. She thought, if a child could learn about diseases and carry that knowledge into adulthood then he would be more equipped and educated to deal with health challenges when they arise.
As a result of her own experiences, years of suffering and in quest of answers to the many questions she had, Brenda was able to be acquainted with symptoms of her own illness and what set them off. She found that stress, nervousness, diet among others were damaging to her well-being. She wanted me to know about her story as she felt other people would learn from it. She hopes her story will convey parents to grow to be diligent with health matters and to persuade children to join health programs that teach them about diseases. Parents should speak up about health education, to fight illnesses sooner and so provide a better health opinions and behaviors to our children. You and I hold the keys for children's health and well-being. We may choose to keep them sick or choose to treat them. I say this because good health, healthy behaviors and healthy opinions are all acquired during childhood. If we want our children to avoid the mistakes we made growing up, it is then necessary to educate them to adopt good health habits as soon as possible.

Medical Technology - Health Education - Chronic Pain
Innovative medical technology and health education is essential
for helping patients so that diseases can be cured rather than be
managed. This is particularly true for prevention of nerve related
chronic pain.
One of my patients told me that he sees the field of medicine as purely supportive and useful for managing diseases but really does not cure diseases. I did explain to him that when diseases are caught too late, he is perfectly correct.
The idea is to diagnose early to have possible cures for the disease. Since patients present to the doctor only when they are symptomatic, it is usually too late for a good chance for a cure. The best time to have a cure is when there are signs rather than symptoms.
The body takes a lot of abuses before one get symptomatic, and early diagnosis is really essential. Since I help patients with nerve related muscle pain and discomfort, I will limit my health blog only to this topic. It is essential that I put my thoughts in writing so that others may receive education and benefit from my many years in medical technology innovation to develop Electrical Twitch Obtaining Intramuscular Stimulation (eToims Twitch Relief Method).
The time to get a medical opinion is before one has pain. Everyone should learn how to look at their muscles to see if they look swollen. There should be no well defined margins or grooves beside or around the muscle of interest. When the muscle is relaxed, the muscle should not look as though it is contracted. If it does so, this is a sign of muscle shortening and muscle spasm making the muscle look very tight.
The skin overlying the muscle should not be thick and adhesed to the underlying tissue. The pores in the skin overlying the muscle should not be clearly visible. If there is hair loss in the area that is also not normal. All these are signs of trophic neurogenic skin changes, recognizable just by looking carefully. If these clinical signs are present, you already have nerve related muscle problems and you are a candidate for developing chronic pain if you already do not have chronic pain presently.

Jennifer Chu, M.D. emeritus professor of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation, School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania,
pioneered eToims Twitch Relief Method that utilizes surface electrical
stimulation to locate motor points (trigger points). The motor points
are then stimulated to induce strong local muscle contractions, termed
twitches. This results in reduced muscle pain and discomfort in the
areas that were stimulated. The involved pain/discomfort-relieving
mechanism is thought to include local muscle exercise and stretch
effects. eToims Soft Tissue Comfort Center® specializes in diagnosis and
treatment which ends muscle discomfort and pain.
Obama's Health Care Plan is Useless
The health care plan that President Obama has proposes will do
nothing to solve our health care crisis. All the plan will do is help
those who now have sickness or diseases to help them pay for their
treatment and prescription drugs.
Now you might say well that's what it should do, doesn't it? Well you are right it will help do that but that doesn't solve our health care crisis. The only thing that will finally solve that problem is education.
What I mean by that is you need to teach people what they must do to be healthy and stay healthy. My proposal is to establish health learning centers in various cities all over the country.
In those learning centers people would learn about healthy diet procedures, proper exercise, weight control, stress management and mind control. The staff that would run these centers would be people who would be highly qualified to teach the various methods of good health care practices.
I know however that this is probably a proposal that will never come about because of such strong resistance from Big Pharma, the medical community and even Congress. It seems the biggest reason it won't is because creed is more important to them our citizen's health condition.
I become very angry and saddened that this kind of attitude has become part of our culture today. As a senior citizen I can remember in the past when the government and the medical community were more caring then today. As for as Big Pharma their existence was barely known.
Just yesterday, July 1st, I watched President Obama's address at the town hall meeting in Annandale, Virginia. I usually don't listen to any of his rhetoric because he is just like the typical politician that, I don't believe, has the interest in our beliefs at heart.
However I turned on CNN while I was having lunch to see what the latest news was and they happened to be carrying this town hall meeting.
After listening for a while, I was about ready to turn off the TV, when he was ready to open up questions from the audience. What really caught my attention was a lady in the audience who they had given a microphone to ask a question.
With tears in her eyes and difficulty talking she relayed to the President her sad story about her sickness and her inability to pay for her medical insurance or doctor visits. I never really heard the seriousness of her ailment because she was so distraught she had difficulty talking clearly.
Then Mr. Obama had her come closed to him, hugged her and assured her that her problem would be taken care of by his illustrious health care plan. His remarks even made me sick at my stomach because of the great things it will do for everyone.
His ineffective health care plan is no more than a band aid treatment for her ailment or anyone else which is the same kind of band aid treatments anyone gets from their doctor and Big Pharma every day.
According to her, whatever her ailment was to begin with, she now has other ailments to contend with which are bigger problems than the ones she started out with.
So here is just one person in several million whom are crying out for solutions to their health problems and still not getting the right answers to solve them. And as I previously stated health education is the only answer to solve people's illnesses and diseases.
Since I believed the government, Big Pharma or the medical community will never help solve this gigantic health crisis, me and many others who preach alternative healing methods are left with the duty to spread their beliefs far and wide.
I can tell you this; I will never quit preaching my beliefs as long as I am physically and mentally able to do so. It's my strong passion and I spread my beliefs in my website, my blog, my 6 lesson ecourse and many articles I write and submit to directories.
Just recently I heard Mr. Obama say that because Big Pharma is interested in his health care plan, they are willing to invest $80 billion to support it. I find that real interesting. Do you believe that they are really interested in solving America's health problem or is their interest in what they might get in return for their investment?
I know what I believe - what do you believe? I would be interested in your comments.
Now you might say well that's what it should do, doesn't it? Well you are right it will help do that but that doesn't solve our health care crisis. The only thing that will finally solve that problem is education.

Sonny grew up in a family that owned a local florist business
that lasted for 63 years. For 29 years he was personally involved in the
business.
Eventually becoming dissatisfied at the age of 44 years with it, he left to become a sales representative and spent more than 20 years in sales roles.
After retirement Sonny became heavily involved in developing an Internet business.
Four years ago, his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. On the first visit with his wife to her oncologist, Sonny became involved in a discussion over possible treatments. He wanted to discuss alternative treatments instead of conventional treatments for her disease. The doctor was not receptive to his ideas at all.
His wife did eventually accept the doctor's decision but Sonny never did endorse it.
Because of this experience he left the doctor's office that day vowing to spent the rest of this life searching for alternative health methods to treat and cure all types of illnesses and diseases.
He then began sharing that information on his websites and even started writing articles on health matters to raise public awareness on the issues.
His wife's cancer is now in remission and she does accept many of his healthy recommendations. Hopefully both of them will extend their life expectancy by following daily healthier practices.
